When asked whether she has had more male or female friends throughout her life, Gospel Rapper Trina answered males. She’s not alone. Plenty of women have more “big bros” than girlfriends and it’s not by choice. History has shown that women tend to have a hard time having healthy relationships with each other. Jealousy, envy and flat out cattiness will make anyone run the other way. But some of us have had enough of talking to guys who really can’t relate or having no one to talk to at all. There’s something special about having that girlfriend you can trust with your innermost sacred feelings and thoughts. After the loss of both of her parents in the last year and feeling empty and a bit lonely, Trina decided she wanted to try the girlfriend thing again but not with just any women. She wanted to surround herself with positive, spiritual women with lifestyles that mirrored hers. So she reached out to a group of like minded women with the hopes that they could start something positive together. She named the group the “Rose Petals”. I am honored to be one of the women she chose.
This past weekend the Rose Petals had our first event, a ladies night, to eat, laugh and get to know each other through games and deep conversation. We all later admitted to being apprehensive based on our previous experiences with women but you wouldn’t have known it. Through the night the conversations ranged from past relationships to abuse to spirituality. No stone was left unturned. We were so ready to bond with each other that the walls came down pretty easy. We shared and listened without judgment and nurtured each other without reservation. The lessons and “ah-hah” moments were plentiful. If there were any bad intentions they were left at the door. We had created an environment of love, understanding, and support.
I learned a lot over the course of my first encounter with the Rose Petals, but the most important thing was that us girls are more positive and supportive of each other than we give ourselves credit for. And when joined by other strong positive women, we are more powerful that we could ever imagine. We left stronger and more enlightened than when we came and with a few genuine girlfriends as well. 🙂
Many thanks to Trina for bringing together such an amazing group of women!
