Following your dreams and finding your way in the world is not an easy feat to begin with, but imagine trying to do that in the shadow of a famously successful parent. WE TV’s new reality show “Growing Up Hip Hop” will show just how difficult that can be. The show follows the offspring of several hip hop pioneers as they try to make their own mark in the industry while stepping out of the family shadow and finding success on their own.
The cast includes the Damon “Boogie, Dash, the son of Roc-A-Fella co-founder and entrepreneur Damon Dash, Angela Simmons, the daughter of hip hop pioneer and Run D.M.C. member Rev. Run, TJ Mizell, the son of another Run D.M.C. member, Jam Master Jay, Romeo Miller, the son of No Limit Records founder Master P, Kristinia DeBarge, the daughter of DeBarge band member James DeBarge and Egypt Criss, the daughter of Pepa and Treach from hip hop groups Salt-N-Pepa and Naughty By Nature.
The Atlanta premiere of the show, which included a panel discussion hosted by Ebony Steele, took place last night with attendees that included the who’s who of the Atlanta reality TV world. “Real Housewives of Atlanta” cast members Kenya Moore, Porsha Williams and Phaedra Parks, “Love and Hip Hop” stars Joseline Hernandez, Stevie J, Mimi Faust and Erica Dixon as well as Demetria McKinney, Toya Wright and Monyetta Shaw were all in the house.
