It looks like hard work continues to pay off for the cast, crew and producers of FOX’s musical drama Empire and ABC’s family comedy Black-ish. The popular shows have both raked in double digit nominations for the 2016 NAACP Image Awards with Empire snagging 12 and Black-ish grabbing 10. I must admit that I kind of lost interest in Empire but the show’s stars, Taraji P. Henson, Terrance Howard, Jussie Smollett, Bryshere Y. Gray and Grace Gealey are doing something right as the drama continues to bring in millions of viewers each week and each are in the running for individual performance awards.
After debuting as FOX’s highest rated show in three years, the network has picked up Empire for a second season. The musical drama that centers around the entertainment company, Empire Enterprises, has been warmly received by viewers and critics alike. However, for as much positive feedback the series has received, there are also some folks who aren’t pleased with some of the show’s content. Specifically, a scene in last week’s episode where Cookie walked in on her gay son and his love interest while in bed. The complaints come from people who feel that the scene was unnecessary and “inappropriate” for network television and that “gayness” is being pushed down the throats of Americans.
