Ray Rice is probably a pretty happy camper after the New Jersey judge presiding over his domestic violence case dismissed it and dropped all charges against him for assaulting his wife, Janay Rice, in an elevator knocking her unconscious in February 2014.
According to reports, Judge Michael Donio signed the dismissal order after the Atlantic County prosecutor advised him that the former Baltimore Ravens running back had completed the terms of his pretrial intervention which included domestic violence counseling and paying $125 in fines.
When Rice spoke to the Baltimore Sun earlier this year, he was looking forward to starting fresh.
After May 19, I’m done. It will be a full year. It will be like a refreshing start.”
NFL Commissioner, Roger Goodell, initially suspended Rice for two games after seeing minimal footage of the assault, then suspended him indefinitely after a second video revealed that showed Rice actually knocking his wife unconscious. Rice is currently a free agent after being reinstated by the NFL in November 2014.
I guess he’s fulfilled his obligations so that’s the way the cookie crumbles. I hope that somewhere behind the PR clean up campaign, this family is really getting the help they need to make sure that domestic violence remains non-existent in their household.
