When Support Should Be Private Not Public

You’d have to have been under a rock for the past 24 hours to not know about the drama between Kehlani and her NBA boyfriend Kyrie Irving and the rumors that Kehlani cheated on Kyrie with her ex rapper Party Next Door. After Party Next Door posted a pic on Instagram of the two in bed, Kehlani deleted her Instagram account and attempted to take her own life. Fortunately the attempt was unsuccessful. Kehlani has since reactivated her Instagram and shared a bit about the ordeal.

“And since you’re begging for the truth on my love life: I am severely utterly in love with my first love. Went thru a bad breakup and ended up easing into a relationship with a man who was one of my bestfriend. Tho we reallzed we both weren’t exactly at a time where we were prepared to do so. No I’m not a CHEATER, a THOT, i’m a BELIEVER IN FOLLOWING YOUR HEART and not LYING TO YOURSELF. And in all aspects on everyone’s side, EVERYONE IS HAPPY AND HONEST AND MATURE. Social media is the goddamn evil. Go outside and play, you have your own lives to live that don’t revolve around “celebrities” or “socialites” who are simply trying to live lives just like you.”

Now there has been an outpouring of support for the young singer and rightfully so. Kehlani is currently hospitalized on psychiatric hold but is clearly able to have visitors. How do we know? Because celebs are posting pics taken while visiting her!

It’s one thing to shout out your BFF’s accomplishments on social media or even share the birth of a new addition to the family but sometimes our support for those we care about should be strictly between you and that person. I’m sure going from being called a thot to have the support of the masses is a relief but should your support of someone who attempted suicide and claims that social media is evil be shared via social media? Why is there a need to share such private moments with a friend after an ordeal of this magnitude? I won’t pretend to know the intentions of those Kehlani considers her friends but this just rubs me the wrong way and the fact that she is allowing it makes me even more concerned for her. Where is her family? I truly hope that this isn’t all some publicity stunt and Kehlani is able to get the help she needs away from the public eye.
